The Mission Starts Here - Driver Testing Film Series for More Than Equal

Client: More Than Equal

Project: Driver Testing Day Film Series

Discipline: Motorsport Videography & Documentary Film

The Brief:

Founded by entrepreneur Karel Komárek and former F1 driver David Coulthard, More Than Equal exists for one reason. To find and develop the first female Formula 1 World Champion. A not-for-profit, research-led organisation, they identify top female racing talent around the world and deliver a bespoke Driver Development Programme providing data-led physical and mental performance support designed to close the gap between where their drivers are and where they need to be.

In 2026 they commissioned Visually Rich to film a series of testing days, documenting their drivers going through rigorous physical and mental assessment and training at university facilities, as the programme did the unglamorous, essential work that separates serious athlete development from everything else.

The approach:

The testing days we filmed weren't at a circuit. There were no cars, no lap times and no grandstands. What there was, in a university performance environment, was something arguably more revealing. Physical conditioning assessments, cognitive performance testing, reaction work, mental resilience training and the kind of forensic human performance analysis that elite sport has used for decades but motorsport is only beginning to apply properly to female drivers.

It's the part of the programme that most people never see. And in many ways it's the most important part of all.

Filming in a performance testing environment is a different discipline entirely to trackside motorsport coverage. The challenge is the same as any documentary filming situation, get close enough to capture something real without making the people being filmed feel watched. The sessions needed to feel authentic because they were authentic. Young women being pushed physically and mentally in pursuit of something that hasn't been achieved in nearly fifty years of Formula 1. That story tells itself, if the camera is in the right place and knows when to stay quiet.

We covered multiple testing days across the series, building a body of film that documented the full range of what the programme involves, the physical demands, the cognitive assessments, the coaching conversations and the moments between sessions where the reality of what these drivers are working toward is most visible on their faces.

The result:

A series of films that gave More Than Equal compelling, authentic content from inside their driver development programme, the part of the operation that sponsors, partners and media rarely get to see and that communicates more powerfully than any trackside highlight reel what this programme is genuinely about.

With almost 50 years now passed since the last time a female driver competed in F1, what More Than Equal are doing matters. The films we produced reflect that, honest, human and built around a mission that the sport has needed for a long time.
